When to move from accounting software to ERP in Nigeria
Most Nigerian companies move to ERP two years too late — or buy far more ERP than they need. Here is how to time it.

Seven signals you have outgrown accounting software
Three or more usually means it is time.
Purchase approvals happen on WhatsApp
And invoices are keyed after the goods arrive.
Stock is valued in a spreadsheet at month-end
The ledger and the warehouse disagree every month.
Sales are re-keyed from a separate POS or invoicing tool
Double entry in the wrong sense.
You run more than one company
And consolidation is a manual workbook.
Month-end takes more than ten working days
Mostly reconciling, not analysing.
Auditors raise control findings
Segregation of duties and approvals are not enforced by the system.
Nobody trusts the margin by product or branch
Because costs are allocated by hand.

What does an ERP project really cost a Nigerian company?
Licences are the visible part. For a 20-user distributor on Business Central, licences at list are roughly ₦26m a year; a competent partner implementation commonly costs as much again or more, plus annual support. Budget for internal time too: a finance lead spending half their week on the project for four months.
Which ERP fits which Nigerian company?
Business Central for Microsoft-centric companies with stock and purchasing. SAP Business One for distributors aligned with SAP or with a strong local B1 partner. Odoo when you want POS, inventory, HR and accounting in one and have someone in-house to own it. Dynamics 365 Finance and NetSuite for multi-entity groups.
What should you fix before buying?
The chart of accounts, the item master (SKUs, units, costing method), approval rules and a month-end calendar. An ERP enforces whatever you design; it does not design it for you.
What about NRS e-invoicing and Nigerian payroll?
None of the global ERPs ship Nigerian payroll or NRS e-invoicing natively. Put both in the partner’s statement of work, with named deliverables and tests.
How long does it take?
Business Central, SAP B1 or Odoo for a single company: 8–16 weeks. Dynamics 365 Finance or NetSuite OneWorld for a group: 6–12 months.
