South Africa
South Africa is the most mature accounting-software market on the continent. Sage has decades of installed base through Pastel, Xero and QuickBooks publish rand prices, bank feeds to the big four banks are normal, and payroll is its own product category with SimplePay, Sage Payroll and PaySpace.
The decision here is rarely ‘can it do VAT’ — most can. It is whether your accountant works in it, whether payroll and the ledger talk to each other, and when to leave an accounting app for Business Central, NetSuite or Dynamics 365 Finance. SARS e-invoicing is coming, but no mandatory date was set as of October 2026.

Not as of October 2026. SARS consulted on an e-invoicing and digital reporting model and comments closed on 16 October 2026. Large taxpayers are expected first; no mandatory date is set.
